Future Irish football stars put Niall Quinn to the test at Dublin Bus Penalty Shoot Out Competition
Today 20 football fanatics aged 7-12 from Aosóg community project were given the opportunity of a lifetime as they took part  in the 10th Annual Dublin Bus Penalty Shoot Out Competition with former International footballer Niall Quinn. The children are from the North West inner city area of Dublin.

The event, which is organised in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, was held at the Sean O’Casey Community Centre, Mary’s Road, East Wall. During the day, Niall Quinn treated the selected group to an intensive coaching session before going head to head in a Penalty Shoot Out Competition. The winners were then presented with prizes by Niall at a ceremony in the community center.

The group was chosen as many of the children rely on public transport (Routes 151/53 operate in East Wall and Routes 37, 46A & 39/A operate in the North Circular Road area). The event aims to recognise the work carried out by voluntary groups and community Gardaí to support young people during the summer months. Each year a new area within the Dublin Bus network is chosen to host the event and children are chosen from the area’s local youth group. It also helps to promote the value of public transport to young people within the communities in which Dublin Bus operates.

It is just one in a series of events which Dublin Bus undertakes as part of its Community Spirit Initiative which supports local communities across the Dublin Bus network. Aosóg is a community based Child and Family Project based in the North West inner city of Dublin.

Aosóg was set up as a direct response to a need identified by people living and working in the area. The Project works with children aged 7 to 12 years and their families.

Commenting on the programme Niall Quinn, who is also the patron of the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards, said, “It is great to be involved in such a rewarding event which supports local communities throughout the Greater Dublin Area. It was such a delight to see the passion that these children have for football. Hopefully days like today will help children gain the confidence and the life skills they need to reach their full potential”.
