Way more trips. Even better service.

Published on Wednesday, December 02, 2020

Your bus service is about to get even better. From Sunday 13 December 2020, there will be significant improvements on 8 Dublin Bus routes. We are adding 824 additional trips per week, with one route set to run 24 hours, 7 days a week for the first time.

First, the following routes just got better: Route 1, Route 9, Route 13, Route 14, Route 39, Route 39a, Route 40 and Route 83 (including route variation 83a).

They will collectively benefit from enhanced timetables. Improvements range from:
- Extra off-peak departures from Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- Earlier departure times
- Better frequency and increased reliability
- More cross-city terminus to terminus departures
- Later services.

And there's even bigger news for customers of Route 39a between UCD Belfield and Ongar. Your bus will now be running 24 hours, 7 days a week. You will see improved frequency of your bus by day, and additional services at night - one every 30 minutes between 11.30pm and 5am - to respond to changing demand patterns. As a result of the new 24-hour service on this route, it means that Nitelink Route 39n will no longer be needed, so it will be removed from the timetable.*

The news gets better still. Thanks to this investment in public transport, there's been a boost for employment too, with a total of 80 new driver and mechanic jobs.

Finally, although our service improvements have increased capacity, on board capacity is now 50% of normal levels. So, we do advise you to plan your journey in advance and travel outside peak times. Travel during peak times should be limited to essential journeys and for essential workers and wearing a face covering is mandatory on public transport.

Working with The National Transport Authority, we are delighted to improve our services and your journey. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you back soon.
