Dublin Bus has delivered a significant increase in customer numbers for 2019. Customers travelling on both public service obligation (PSO) routes (138 million) and commercial services (Airlink 747, Airlink 757 and DoDublin Tours) have increased by 5% to 142 million. This demand is driven by our continuous focus on enhancing the customer experience, the introduction of 24 hour services and the benefits of bus priority measures which have helped reduced journey times.
Speaking about the increase in customers choosing to use Dublin Bus, CEO Ray Coyne said “2019 was a year of strong growth for Dublin Bus and the city as a whole. With new 24 hour services introduced and 7 years of growth in customer numbers, it is clear that the mandate and demand for public transport has never been greater. Our 24 hour services are a vital addition to the public transport offering of our capital city and we look forward to introducing more over the next number of years. Public transport is a strategic state asset and is vital to Dublin’s economy and at Dublin Bus, we are delighted to be playing our role in the success of Dublin. With the continued support of the National Transport Authority (NTA) we will build on these positive numbers with further service enhancements planned throughout 2020, to the benefit of the city and our customers.”
In order to meet the increase in demand for our services, Dublin Bus continuously reviews the key growth areas across the Greater Dublin Area (GDA) in conjunction with the NTA. We will introduce additional services across the Greater Dublin Area. As Ireland’s largest public transport provider, we are uniquely placed to cater for increased customer demand throughout the GDA and the introduction of additional services will help us achieve this. We are also continuing our recruitment of new drivers to meet this increasing demand for our services. Last year over 200 new drivers were employed to cater for additional demand and to ensure that a high quality service continues to be delivered for customers.
