Company more than Appy with success of its iPhone app.

Dublin Bus has beaten a range of nominees to win Best Travel and Tourism App at the second annual Appy awards ceremony, which was held last night in The Mansion House, Kildare Street. The Appy awards recognise and honour the best in application development for smart-phones, tablets and social media platforms. The app, which was developed in conjunction with biznet IIS, was launched back in July and initially contained a route planner, route timetables and news items, but has now been upgraded with Version 2 of the app now providing customers with a Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) facility.

Speaking about the award, Dawn Bailey, Marketing and Sales Manager for Dublin Bus, commented, “This award is the culmination of a project that began back in March and has gone from strength to strength. The app allows greater ease of access to service

information for our customers and, with its RTPI facility, our customers now know to the minute the arrival time of their services,” she said.“Predictability and reliability of service are key factors in any successful transport company and the Dublin Bus app further enables this,” she added.

The application, which is available free of charge from iTunes, has been downloaded over 38,000 times since its launch and this figure increases by a weekly average of 3,500. iPhone users can now check the actual arrival time of their bus at all 5,000 bus stops and shelters on the Dublin Bus network. An official Dublin Bus app for Android is nearing completion and Android users will be able to avail of the same benefits received by iPhone users from the end of November.
