Some of us need a hand - Please support ALONE’S work this Christmas
ALONE is encouraging members of the public to support their work during the winter months and check in on older neighbours or family members who may be in need of assistance.
During the Christmas period ALONE will distribute food hampers to 500 older people in need. They will also be working on Christmas day delivering hot Christmas dinners to many older people who will be spending the holidays on their own.
ALONE works with hundreds of older people and is available for support each and every day of the year. ALONE provides a crucial befriending service to older people who are isolated, along with providing permanent housing to over 90 older people who were either homeless or at risk of homelessness. The most vital area of service provision during the winter months is the Community Response service, which deals with emergency calls for assistance. This crisis support service helps older people in need deal with issues relating to health, housing conditions, loneliness, disability and financial problems. The number of emergency calls received by the charity during the month of September 2011 showed an 82% increase on September 2010.
ALONE doesn’t receive any funding from the government and relies on the generous support of companies and the general public to continue working with hundreds of vulnerable older people who contact the charity each year.
Please support ALONE’s work this Christmas by making a donation of whatever you can afford. Call 01 6791032 or logon to www.alone.ie for more details.
Wishing you a happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.
