Skerries Water Festival

Published on Friday, July 18, 2014

At a loss of what to do in the wake of Garth-Gate? Get set to get wet in Skerries for the Skerries Water Festival which takes place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of July. The two day free festival is full of exciting events which will give visitors the chance to participate in free of charge taster sessions of kayaking, stand up paddle and rowing to name but a few. These taster sessions are being offered by the fantastic local water sports companies Outdoor Dublin and Skerries Water Sports Academy and the festival is proudly sponsored by Great Outdoors.

Taking place on the South Strand beach in Skerries the festival will also be host to a market, fun fair, street performers, sand castle building competition, free tasters from local food providers, arts and crafts and much more. The Sea Scouts are also planning a paddle – polo display and there will be information galore about water sports.

With National Water Safety Week beginning on the 27th of July the Skerries Water Festival is also incorporating the issue of water safety with information stands and the RNLI station, Skerries, will be open to visitors offering them a chance to see the station and equipment and are going to have a launch enactment. Visitors may even get a chance to see a live sea rescue with the Skerries Coastguard who are hoping to pop by in their helicopter.
